The heritage of the island of Paf
Our trip
A good movie of the story of Paf’s birth could be created. On January 1, 1967, we began our activities with the Public Health Service of Åland, Save The Children, The Red Cross and local children’s charities. All the benefits of online gaming are collected together and under the Åland online gambling legislation.

We started modestly, with the classic Pajazzo slots (where players inserted coins) and two employees who worked part time. However, in the early 70’s the business took a big leap. We incorporated new machines and in 1973 Paf got the exclusive rights with which he could start to form gaming halls on the Åland ferries.

We continue to grow at the same rate until a few weeks before the new millennium begins. On December 3, 1999, we launched our website www.paf.fi. We were one of the pioneer game companies to enter the online market and the business developed rapidly. Soon we introduced online slot machines, casino, bingo, lotteries and poker on our page. The web grew internationally and Paf.com was created, the current website that has 6 languages.

Five years after the launch on the internet, the revenue from online games exceeded the revenue collected from the Åland ferries. In fact, the great success of Paf.com allowed us to donate more than 100 million euros to casuas and social goods during the first decade of the new millennium.

The world has changed a lot since our birth 50 years ago. Now the group has around 400 employees and game servers in various countries including Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Spain and Italy. But our head office, our license and our roots are still in Åland. Our objectives also remain the same since we started: Getting money to donate to social causes and the public good while we have fun as we have been doing since our inception.

Paf was founded in Åland, an island located in the Baltic Sea between Finland and Sweden.
Åland is an autonomous region of Finland, demilitarized and where the main language is Swedish.
The Åland archipelago consists of approximately 6700 islands. The population is around 28,000 inhabitants and the capital is Mariehamn.
Åland was part of the Swedish Empire until 1809 when it was ceded to Russia. The Russians lost control of the islands in 1917, when Finland and Sweden claimed their rights over the territory. In 1912 the League of Nations declared that Åland would be an autonomous region of Finland.
